Tracking the Rock Star: Supernova finale

September 13th, 2006 by Padrino

Okay . . . both L.G. and I are sitting down in the basement of Zin City Studios, watching the unfurling and dubbing of the Superpirates’ new lead singer. It is L.G.’s birthday, so wish him a big happy 50th! Hahahahaha. Just kidding L.G.

Ill Crate episode 49, a.k.a. Rock Star: Supernova, Week 10 Performance

September 6th, 2006 by LG

We tried something a little different this time. We recorded this show while watching Rock Star: Supernova, specifically the performance episode for week 10 (Sept. 5, 2006). The idea was that you’d get to listen to our wisecracks while watching your own recording of the show at home. Unfortunately, you’ll have to guess at the right time to start your MP3 player and your VCR/TiVo/whatever, because we couldn’t get the TV audio to pick up well at all on the microphone. Oh well, hopefully you will find our entertaining insights, er, uh, entertaining. We did also slip in some bits of our regular features, too (Slangoria and Reposing or Decomposing?).

Attention Rock Star fans

September 5th, 2006 by LG

Tonight’s the next performance episode of Rock Star: Supernova. Even if you don’t usually record these episodes, you’ll want to record tonight’s.

Why? Padrino and I are planning to record our own running commentary to go along with it. Sometime after it’s over (hopefully no more than a day or two), you can play back the episode, sync up your MP3 player with our commentary, and listen along.

Fun for all! (We hope.)

Ill Crate episode 48: Krushed by Kompressor

August 27th, 2006 by LG

Here’s the forty-eighth episode of our little podcast. No, it shouldn’t be the last, despite Padrino’s bellyaching. This time we listen to German/alien industrial act Kompressor. And, lucky you, we also have our regular features Slangoria, Reposing or Decomposing?, and The Geek Zone.

Ill Crate episode 47: Zayra Alvarez

August 16th, 2006 by LG

This week (month? biennium?) we focus on Zayra Alvarez, one of our favorite “rockers” from Rock Star: Supernova. Yeah, we know she doesn’t exactly “rock,” but she does have a certain undefinable quality that we like (maybe it’s that Puerto-Rican-ness). You will also hear our regular features Slangoria, Reposing or Decomposing?, and a tiny bit of The Geek Zone.

This episode does not come in MPEG-4 flavor with an embedded slideshow like the last couple of episodes (due to annoying GarageBand gremlins), so this one is slideshow-free. If you iTunes/iPod fans miss the slideshows, let us know.

In this episode, Ministry is out for some Rio Grande Blood, so we give their new album a listen (no, that’s not R. Lee Ermey. Also, Padrino shares a story about the cruelty he endures at the hand of his wife 101011. In our regular features, we butcher the English language in Slangoria and we test our knowledge of celebrities living and dead in Reposing or Decomposing?. I know this is a short post, but it’s a short podcast (if 43 minutes can really be considered “short”).

Ill Crate episode 45 in iPod-ready MPEG-4 audio or good old-fashioned MP3 format like Mom used to make.

Ill Crate episode 44

June 15th, 2006 by LG

What do Godzilla and the number 44 have in common? Um… probably nothing until now. Our 44th episode features music in tribute to the giant lizard by Taz Dev, Michael Graves, Roy Buchanan, and SpEnt fiXer. We also take an early visit to The Geek Zone, which may as well be called “The MacBook Zone.” Also among our regular features: Slangoria butchers the English language once again, and Reposing or Decomposing? tests Padrino’s knowledge of Playboy Playmates.

Episode 43: the Wheel of Chaos returns

May 22nd, 2006 by LG

In our 43rd episode, the Wheel of Chaos (originally appearing in episode 30) gets dusted off again and we spend the entire show picking songs entirely at random by SpEnt fiXer, The Zarkons, In the Woods, and Lizzy Borden. Also, Padrino is inspired by his upcoming golf trip to wax philosophical on the game. We take one last look at the The Amazing Race 9, its season finale, and a flashback to Padrino’s prediction on the outcome. Our “Slanguage” segment is renamed Slangoria just in time for Halloween (okay, we’re a little early). In the Geek Zone, LG discusses this week’s spam woes and the death of the Blue Frog, but cheers up with the latest on Kari Byron of Mythbusters and now FHM(!!). Finally, in this week’s Reposing or Decomposing?, we challenge each other on famous Misters as well as members of the Reagan Administration.

If You Enjoyed The Music In Episode 42:

May 19th, 2006 by Padrino

Believe it or not, Illiterati, the band to which episode 42 was dedicated, those melodious monsters of Indie pop, Rilo Kiley, will be featured on an upcoming episode of Austin City Limits! That’s Right! You heard right. Rilo Kiley! Live! Austin City Limits!

What?

Oh, “when”, you ask?

Well, in the Seattle area, you should be able to find them on your local PBS station at Midnight on 5/28. But please, check your local listings. The only downside, is that they are splitting the bill with Jack Johnson (I think I have that right). But if you’re familiar with the outstanding quality of Austin City Limits, even Jack should be tolerable.

Enjoy!
