Deep inside episode 41: S.W.A.T.
In the 41st episode of the Ill Crate, we examine S.W.A.T., a one-off project of Jim Goad that in 1994 went Deep Inside a Cop’s Mind. Then Padrino brings us more Slanguage, and we discuss The Amazing Race and the nail-biting 10th episode. Next you can play along with Reposing or Decomposing?, in which LG challenges Padrino with game show hosts (mostly) and Padrino challenges LG by being a big fat cheater. In The Geek Zone we learn about the new woes of the Blue Frog (a spam-fighting service we first mentioned in episode 33). Last but not least, Padrino shares a special gift from a fan.

I do believe Episode 41 was the fastest turnaround we’ve ever had. I, too, thought the “slanguage” portion was great. I really have fun with that segment.
Did you like the music at all? I think that “Deep Inside A Cop’s Mind” is the best “weird” album I’ve ever stumbled across. I’ve found a lot of bizarre gems in my time, but none that were so “listenable” as S.W.A.T.’s “magnum opus.” What I mean by that is, there are a ton of albums out there that are totally genius in their conceit, but they don’t make for the most pleasant listening experience. Example: anything by Negativland. One of the greatest, no . . . absolutely THE greatest experimental band of our time, but even though their albums have heaps of amazing subtext and tons of interesting samples and musical quirks . . . it is hard to have the album playing in the background and get the toes a-tappin’. You know what I mean?
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the music as well as the show. We’ve got some good slanguage coming up on the next show. Not sure yet if it will be this week.
BTW, are you happy that MoJo bit the dust on AR?
I was sad to see Chris? gone on Idol. I hear that there is some sort of controversy surrounding his departure. Let me know what you hear.

Heck yeah Im glad MoJo’s gone! I was getting a bit tense about the hippies eating that whole frign bowl of crickets…it was huge! Ya know, I think Joel and my fave couple is Yolanda and Raymond…I think that’s their name. They’re so calm and cool. S.W.A.T. was alright, yall pick some really obscure stuff!! But it’s always interesting. Hey guess what I found on the new rack at hastings… Dragonforce! Never had heard of them before the ill crate. hehehe. Oh yeah, and guess who Joel and I have been chatting with….Mike Ness. Too cool huh!!!

Oh yeah, man, I was shocked when Chris got sent home. I couldn’t believe it because he did the best. Should have been Katharine! Funny though, cause before it started I said to Joel “watch something stupid happen like, Chris gets thrown off!” Maybe it was fault!! hehehe. You know the thing is, is everyone should get just one vote. Katharine probably appeals a lot more to kids and teens (she only beat him by 400 votes) who will spend all 2 hours dialing away with nothing better to do. Real musicians and adults are probably Chris’ main supporters, and they just aren’t gonna spend that long voting. One vote…that’s the way it should be! so there!

Well, it is probably better for a rocker to be thrown off of Idol . . . I think there might be a stigma attached to being on Idol for the rock singers. It is like they are already sell-outs or mainstream for having been on a “karaoke” tv show. I don’t buy that myself, but hard core rockers probably won’t accept anything that their grandmothers and pre-pubescent sisters watch and enjoy on television. And you are correct about the voting. Same reason a lame movie like Titantic becomes the biggest film ever; teenage girls have a lot of time (and money, apparently) to spend on supporting stupid (to me) stuff. Just my 2 cents.
So, Dragonforce has made their way down to Tejas, eh? Who woulda thunk it? I do hope you picked up that cd! Herman Li would love you. He’d probably even let you comb his hair . . . but that might take a couple of weeks. It is quite long. Just in case you didn’t know.
Mike Ness, huh? Niiiiice. Does he have a blog or something? I haven’t heard his solo stuff yet. Is that pretty good?

Gosh, I’ve been so busy that past few days and have now just listened to your podcast. I wish I was more knowledgeable with the music you guys pick. You two are far out when it comes to music! Anyway, great show and glad Mr. Shakespeare got some acclaim!

Chris Daughtery from American Idol will be the lead singer of Fuel. At least that’s the latest news I’ve been hearing and reading everywhere! He’ll def make it as a star anyway, so I’m actually glad he’s off the show now. He deserves better. Heard he broke contract with AI now too. Im thinking the whole Mike Ness things a fraud. I looked deeper into the profile and something seems fishy to me. I’m gonna stop chatting to him and so is Joel cause we don’t want to seem lame if it’s not really him! hehehe. His solo stuff is okay, I like him in Social D a lot better though.

Yeah, I’ve heard there are a lot of weirdos on MySpace. Seems that there is some sort of eerie news connected to MySpace everyday. Still, I think it is a useful endeavor and gives some people their only sense of community. BTW, I used to really dig Fuel. Haven’t heard anything from them in quite some time. Didn’t know that they lost their original singer. He was really good. But it seems like Chris could probably fill that gap pretty well.
